Story
I set myself the challenge of personally wanting to run the marathon when I turned 40 but whilst also helping such a worthy cause. Covid has meant that my place was moved twice but fingers crossed it is third time lucky and I will be running this October. It has been strange because each time I have started my training and the postponement of the event has put my training on hold. This summer has seen my training continue though, even during the heatwave !
I have seen first hand, through teaching, the support that some young children need. Sadly, funding cuts are meaning that schools are finding it so hard to access support needed. As a teacher you want to do everything in your power to help all children and therefore I hope that by fundraising for The Childrens Society I am helping some of those children who need help beyond what schools can offer.
My Nan always cared for children so much and I know she would be proud of this cause. So I will also be running the marathon in her memory, in a city she loved to visit and where we have such fond memories as a family.
On 3rd October 2022, thousands of people will take on the world famous Virgin Money London Marathon. The Childrens Societys team will be running to raise awareness and vital funds to help us continue to run our local services for children in this country who feel scared, unloved and unable to cope. The Childrens Society is a national charity that helps thousands of children and young people who desperately need our support, who often have nowhere left to turn.We support vulnerable young people across a range of issues, including those experiencing or at risk of child sexual exploitation, domestic violence, substance misuse, mental and emotional health problems, or children who go missing or run away from home or care. Our supporters around the country fund our services, volunteer with us, and join our campaigns to show children and young people they are on their side. In doing so, they help us make a real and positive difference to thousands of children's lives.
