Team Northrop ( Oli, Issy, Will and I) are going to be running a Family Marathon on Saturday 29th June in Victoria Park, London in aid of Invest in ME.  I intend to run a Half Marathon -Yes, all 13.1 miles of it! I have only ever run 6 miles non stop so it will be a tough challenge. Oli, Wills and Issy will be by my side making up the rest between them! 

Invest in ME Research is an independent UK charity finding, funding and facilitating a strategy of biomedical research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME or ME/CFS).The charity is run by volunteers - patients or parents of children with ME - with no paid staff. Overheads are kept to a minimum and all funds raised to go to promoting education of, and funding for biomedical research into, ME. Their efforts are focused on setting up a UK Centre of Excellence for ME which will provide proper examinations, diagnosis and in time treatment(s)/cure(s).

My Mum, and millions of others like her all over the world, battle with this disease that science and the medical profession do not yet understand.  Some struggle to put one foot in front of the other, others are completely bed bound. Mum can only go out in a wheelchair as she does not have the energy to walk for any more than a few steps or to stand up even for a short time.  

 Energy is the real issue because the accompanying Post Exertional Malaise is severe.  If Mum goes out to do something on a Monday she is unlikely to be able to go out again until Friday when some energy will have returned. She hasn’t visited us for two and a half years because the 180 mile return car journey is too much for her.

 There is almost no public biomedical research funding so it has to be raised by donations. Please support us in raising money for this charity which funds research aimed at finding the cause and a cure for this debilitating, isolating and misunderstood disease.
