Story

Hi, thank you for visiting my page and all I ask is for  you read the information below.

My name is Anthony and I’m going to explain why I have chosen to raise money for this amazing charity.

In August of 2011 I went on a family holiday to Egypt. While I was on the holiday I was raped, after the rape I was taken to hospital where I had surgery and had to speak to all the authorities, then within 48 hours I was home.

When I got home I never told anyone what had happened only the family on the holiday knew until a few months later when the pain got so bad I told my partner and a select few people in the last several years until now.

Male rape is never talked about by the victim or  by the general public and that’s why I want to raise money and awareness around male rape.

As a victim I want to help people build their lives back because talking from personal experiences by trying to forget about it doesn’t work, I have hit rock bottom and thought their was no way out but their is. For to many years I blamed myself for what happened and I felt ashamed and guilty,  I didn’t want people to know as I didn’t want them to think differently or look at me differently and the biggest one is not to treat me like a victim. I now know what happened to me wasn’t my fault and I have nothing to be ashamed off, every day I remind myself of  that and I won’t let it beat me and I’m learning to live with it daily.

So please help me raise as much money as possible to help all the other male victims get the help and support they deserve and to show them that they have noting to be ashamed of by telling people what’s happened to them.

Thank you for reading.

SurvivorsUK helps men who’ve been raped, sexually abused or assaulted. Every year in the UK, around 12,000 men are raped and 76,000 sexually abused or assaulted. It isn’t easy for men to talk about what’s happened to them: only 4% will speak about it. Of the few who do, it takes an average of 26 years to do so. SurvivorsUK wants to challenge stereotypes and taboos that prevent men speaking about what’s happened to them. Our counselling, helpline and support services are here to help men deal with the devastating impact of rape and sexual abuse.
