Story

We are screening this incredible film as a fundraiser for Asylum Welcome, who work to provide a collective humanitarian response to the challenges faced by asylum seekers, refugees and detainees in Oxford and Oxfordshire. We have given up the cinema for the evening for free so every penny goes towards to the charity! We have set up this page to help aid in our fundraising effort on the night.

A Syrian Love Story was the winner of the Sheffield Doc/Fest in 2015 and charts an incredible odyssey to political freedom in the West. Two Syrian revolutionaries Raghda and Amer, who met in a Syrian prison cell, find their love challenged by circumstance. This film tells the poignant story of their family torn apart by the tyrannical Assad dictatorship.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with Kate Smart, director of Asylum Welcome, and Dai Richards, a local documentary filmmaker who volunteers at Asylum Welcome supporting victims of war and persecution.
