Story

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving Page.

This is a simple and safe way to donate to our cause.

HEARING LOSS CURRENTLY AFFECTS 1 IN 6 PEOPLE IN THE UK

40% ARE OVER 50 YEARS INCREASING TO 70% OVER 70 YEARS

2 IN EVERY 1000 BABIES ARE BORN WITH A SIGNIFICANT HEARING LOSS INCREASING TO 3 IN A 1000 BY 10 YEARS OF AGE

80% OF CHILDREN WILL EXPERIENCE GLUE EAR AT SOME POINT

The impact of hearing loss is great at a personal and societal level. It can impact on communication and development and lead to social isolation, depression, loss of independence and employment challenges.

Everyone deserves the right to hear the world around them. Think how much your life would be affected if you couldn't hear birds singing, the voices of your friends and loved ones, your favourite TV programme- or even things that could be a danger to you, such as car engines as you cross a road.

If you know someone who has difficulty hearing, communication can be helped by:

Gaining their attention before speaking to them.

Speaking clearly, ensuring they can see you.

Reducing background noise where possible.

Remaining patient and understanding.

Please read on about how we are keen to help bring the issue of hearing impairment to the front of people's mind.

Raising awareness

We as a department are very active in helping to raise awareness of deafness and hearing loss. This is done through organising varying events which will be updated regularly on this page.

Our current expedition is to conquer Snowdon in tow with a giant ear costume (amusing pictures to follow).

We are also passionate to help raise funds for our "HEAR we go" campaign to obtain a mobile unit.

We aim to buy a mobile hearing unit to allow everyone access to quality services to ensure that those affected by hearing loss receive the care and support they need closer to home. Please join our campaign to make this vision a reality.

Whatever your skills, you can really make a difference. Some of the ways you can get involved are:

  • Fundraise – maybe you could hold a cake sale or coffee morning, or do a sponsored walk or run.
  • Volunteer – could you spare some of your time and energy to visit hearing aid users and offer support? Our volunteers are generally users themselves, or have experience of hearing aids and hearing loss through a relative or friend.
  • Donate – any donation, no matter how small, will go towards helping people with hearing loss in our local community, benefitting people of all ages and from all walks of life.
