We fund research into type 1 diabetes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes

Story

We are Laura and Tim Moss, and in 2013-14, we cycled around the world to raise money for JDRF. More details about the trip are available at www.thenextchallenge.org, and here we explain why we have chosen to support JDRF through our journey.

Thank you so much for your donation.

JDRF exists to find the cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications, and is the world’s leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research. Type 1 diabetes is a serious, life-threatening condition: it's the type of diabetes which requires regular injections or pump infusions.

A close friend of ours has the condition, and so we know just how much it affects all aspects of life. It's particularly difficult to manage during exercise, when blood sugar levels can go haywire, meaning that long cycle trips and climbing mountains have an extra challenging aspect to them. It seems crazy that in this day and age there isn't a cure, and those with the condition have to just learn to live with it, constantly monitoring their diet and behaviour.

For more information about JDRF and type 1 diabetes is available below and from www.jdrf.org.uk.

About type 1 diabetes:

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, life-threatening condition that has a life-long impact on those diagnosed with it and their families. JDRF exists to find the cure for type 1 diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition which cannot be prevented, and is not caused by lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise.
People with type 1 diabetes rely on multiple insulin injections or pump infusions every day just to stay alive, until we find the cure.
It normally strikes children and stays with them for the rest of their lives.
Type 1 diabetes affects about 400,000 people in the UK, 29,000 of them children.
