To fly to the Mediterranean from Bristol will take two hours. Perhaps we would hit some turbulence. Walking to the Mediterranean will take six months and we will definitely hit some turbulence, or at least something of the like. So, we will walk it. After all, nobody is likely to sponsor us for sitting on a plane for two hours, even if it is Ryanair.

Europe is a hiker’s dream. The continent is covered in a labyrinth of long distance paths, that stretch from the northernmost  shores of Norway to the Strait of Gibraltar, and as far east as Luhans’k, Ukraine. We (Jake and Danny) will be attempting to walk every mile of the distance, 2,200 in all, with the exception of water crossings (the Graham brothers were not blessed with the aquatic gene).   Out of our front door, we will head to Bath, then on to The Thames Path, Ridgeway and North Downs Way, eventually arriving in Dover with a month or so of hiking under our belts. Sections in Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and France will take us to, and over, the Western Alps and down to the Mediterranean.

The six months of trekking will not only be a magnificent personal achievement, but will also be a great opportunity to raise money for Water Aid, a charity that we are passionate about. All of the sponsor money will be going to Water Aid, which provides safe drinking water and sanitation to millions of people around the world.

Every pound given will make an incredible difference to somebody’s life, so thank you for all donations.

56p could pay for a reinforced concrete sewage pipe in Pakistan.

£5 could pay for a mason to construct a family latrine in India.

£10 could pay for three days training for one hygiene education volunteer in Bangladesh.

£20 could pay to rehabilitate a village water point in Bangladesh.

£70 could pay to develop a roof-water harvesting system in Pakistan, providing drinking water for seven people for four months.

£75 could pay for a locally manufactured rainwater harvesting system for a family in Bangladesh.

£250 could pay for rainwater harvesting gutters to catch water for 336 people in Rwanda.

£282 could pay for the rehabilitation of a village water point in Nigeria.

£340 could pay for enough taps to serve 468 people in Rwanda.

Every penny is precious, every raindrop counts.
