I learned to play the violin at school, receiving all the financial help I needed from the government all the way to the Royal Academy of Music and a career as a professional musician. It transformed my life. My parents could not have afforded to pay for me. No one in my family had gone into further education before or played a musical instrument. Young musicians need help today - The Richard Ely Trust helps young musicians in Dorset who might otherwise not be able to learn to play because it is no longer possible to learn for free at school.
