There are so many charities to choose from. So, why UN Women UK?
Good question! As Emma Watson noted in her speech to the UN, "no country in the world can yet say that they have achieved gender equality. These rights, I consider to be human rights." Like Emma, I believe that I am lucky; I have never felt restricted, constrained or limited by being a woman, but it is a stark reality that others have.
I see gender equality not just as an issue relating to women, but an issue that touches us all. It is my belief that we - man, woman or other - should never feel imprisoned by gender stereotypes and we will only overcome this notion through action.
I am doing this personal challenge to actively play a part in making the world more equal for all.
I consider running to be a huge physical, mental and personal challenge for me. From early on in my life, I was deemed by myself and others as someone who lacked athletic prowess. I limited myself because of this perception and because of someone else's belief as to who I was and what sport was. Not anymore.
My goal is to complete a 5k run before the end of 2017. I hope to provide you with updates to let you know how I am progressing with this goal.
