We give vital support to small charities to make Hertfordshire better for everyone

Story

After 6 years of failing to get into the London Marathon on the ballot, I am ecstatic to be able to finally say that this year I will be running it while raising money for the Hertfordshire Community Foundation (HCF).

For me running this race is the dream of a lifetime, a privilege that I simply cannot put into words. I'm excited and extremely nervous all at the same time. You never really know what is going to happen with the marathon distance. I hope that I can put in all the work required to prepare myself for the event, and that I can make everyone at HCF proud of my efforts.

Please take some time to read the information below about the great work that HCF does in the local community, and also check out there website to learn more at https://www.hertscf.org.uk/.

HCF gives vital support to small charities to make Hertfordshire a better county for everyone. As an independent charity HCF encourages local giving to make Hertfordshire a better place to live, for everyone.

Thanks to the support of our donors we provide grants to families in crisis, grassroots charities and voluntary groups helping some of the county’s most vulnerable residents.

Over the past three decades HCF has funded thousands of local initiatives addressing complex social issues including domestic abuse, learning disabilities, bereavement, homelessness, mental
health and many more.

When you support HCF you give to the local causes that matter in a simple, yet effective way. Hertfordshire is perceived to be an affluent county and yet there are pockets of deprivation in every district.

Research shows that pre-pandemic there were an estimated
25,000 local children living below the poverty line; 795 winter deaths attributed to poor living conditions and a 96% increase in statutory homelessness since 2011.

As the impact of the pandemic unfolds further local issues including food poverty, social isolation, poor mental health and domestic violence have been exacerbated further.

The demand for HCF’s support is growing now more than ever.

About the charity

HCF exists to improve the lives of people living in Hertfordshire. Donations are pooled and given out as grants to small local charities and voluntary groups. Grants can be for both new initiatives and existing projects. Your gift will help our county's most vulnerable residents.
