Well......I did it !

On Saturday 29th at 7.15am I summited Mount Kilimanjaro. It was terrifically hard, both physically and mentally, but so very worth while - so far, with donations and gift aid, we have been able to raise enough to fund more than 7 WEEKS worth of research! I am so delighted and grateful to all who have supported me in this, both friends and strangers alike.

My Mum has Alzheimer’s.

 

She can’t communicate.
She can’t feed herself.
She doesn’t even recognise me anymore.

 

Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia, is a DISEASE.

A progressive disease, for which no single cause has been identified…and for which there is NO CURE.

Alzheimer’s isn’t a natural part of ageing…and it doesn’t just affect the elderly…early onset Alzheimer’s can affect any age group, including people in their 40s and even their 30s.

In the UK someone develops Dementia every 3.2 minutes…worldwide it is one every 7 seconds.

Dementia COSTS the UK economy £23 Billion EVERY year.

That’s more than Cancer (£12 billion)…and Heart Disease (£8 billion)…COMBINED

 

But we CAN beat disease…look at smallpox, polio, tetanus.

As long as we INVEST in RESEARCH

Only 2.5% of the Government’s Medical Research Budget is spent on Dementia… we desperately need to fund more research...

...research into the causes…into the treatment…and ultimately, into the CURE for Dementia

 

It’s too late for my Mum.

But I want to stop it affecting other people’s Mums

So I’m going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for her.

 

Kilimanjaro is 5895m high or THREE AND A HALF MILES !
It is the tallest free standing mountain on the planet.

On 23rd June 2013 I will attempt to summit the largest volcano ever to break the earth's crust …and I need YOU to help me!
