Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have been living with something painful and embarrassing for the best part of 10yrs and it finally has a diagnosis and ultimately a name, Crohn's Disease. I was told numerous times it was just tummy ache or IBS but I knew it wasn't and when My health was at it's lowest point I fought for more answers.
I've had blood tests, scopes and MRI's and now I know what I am dealing with. To be honest although I was relieved to know it was real and not in My head it also made Me realise that this will be with Me forever. It may not be active all the time once the medication kicks in but it will be there, waiting to strike whenever it likes.
My consultant told Me to take a look at the Crohn's and Colitis UK website and after a brief scan I knew this would be where I would get the most help and support so I immediately joined the group. Their website is so informative and has become the first place I turn to for news and advice, so now I want to help give something back.
I want to be able to help not just the new patients but also those who need ongoing help and support and the families with young children who have this disease. I know what it's like to be an adult and suddenly needing the loo (to name one kind of situation) but I can't begin to imagine how young children cope with that.
The fabulous people at Crohn's and Colitis UK are there at the end of an email or indeed a phone call for all manner of things whether it be to enquire about what benefits you may be able to seek, where to find the nearest support group or how to help raise money and awareness for the disease. They even have trained staff to take calls if you just need someone to talk to.
Although to some people it may not sound like a massive achievement, walking 5km, but the money raised as a result will mean a lot to so many:
- £5 will provide the family of a newly diagnosed child with a Family help pack.
- £10 will provide 10 new patients with information booklets on their condition (Mine means a lot to Me).
- £20 can help a person in distress through the helplines that are available.
- £100 helps to pay for equipment for research projects.
Of course the more we raise the more we can help to fund even more research into Crohn's and Colitis and who knows, perhaps one day your money will help towards finding a cure!
So I would like to say thank you for reading and thank you for whatever you can afford to give. Your donations can be made anonymously or you can shout your name from the roof tops, whatever works for you. However you do it, I thank you and so do hundreds of thousands of other people like Me.
