In September 2009 Steve suffered an horrific accident. He was instructed to connect a cable to a box on a HV switch, the switch was turned off and earthed. He was told which box to work on, took the cover off and went to undo the nuts with a spanner. It turned out that this was a non switchable box and was still live, he was electrocuted with 11,000 volts, burst into flames and was thrown to the floor.
Steve suffered severe burns to his face, neck, chest and arms and workmates had to extinguish flames leaping from his body. He was flown by air ambulance to Frenchay Hospital, Bristol where he spent five days in an induced coma, and remained in hospital for 9 weeks.
After many years of operations and skin grafts he is now firmly on the road to recovery, back at work and, once again, enjoying life.
Without the wonderful work of the Great Western Air Ambulance this would not be the good news story that it is and our family would be missing an amazing man.
