Story

Well April came and went! London was postponed but the training had done me good so not a bad thing.

Now it’s time to do London “Virtually” on Sunday 4 Oct with 45,000 other people from 195 different countries. We’ve all had our places deferred to either Oct 2021 or April 2022 or April 2023. I’ve asked to do it in 2021 but who knows 😊

Trained for it once – Got to 22 miles at the Grindleford Gallop – A run walk event with a LOT of climb!!! Then stopped. Trained for a virtual event on Sun 4 Oct.

Will have to train for the real thing sometime in the next 3 yrs. So much for only doing this once

Thanks to some very kind people I was at 50% of my target for fundraising. I do understand we are in very different times at present, however if anyone can afford anything to sponsor me then please do every last penny helps.

I did wonder about not asking anyone for sponsorship and just getting on with this quietly but for me 26.2 miles is a really long way and a lot of effort has gone into the preparation. I swing between panic and pretending I’m not doing anything on Sunday but it’s finally here. Marathon Day.

So all I can say now is – Wish me luck and Let’s Do This !!!

REGAIN PROVIDES… PRACTICAL HELP

Having lost the use their limbs tetraplegics need help to perform many of the most mundane day-to-day tasks. Mobility is the major issue for many and without the use of appropriate wheelchairs and adapted vehicles tetraplegics can become trapped in their own homes.

I"ve added a couple of Testimonials from recipients of support from Regain, the second one is from Kyle Grimes who is now a GB Paralympian. I've cycled in SA with Kylie, she did exactly the same route as me, mountains, hills, miles and miles on a hand bike, she's as tough as anyone I know, when your legs ache, your tired you just have to look at Kylie and the other tetraplegics who cycled with us, grit your teeth and get on with it, I'm doing this to help them just because I can....

Andy - With Regain’s very generous help I’m now able to get in and out of my new vehicle, drive from my wheelchair and leave my house independently once again. Words cannot adequately express just how much this means to me but it’s no understatement to say it has been completely life changing and I am once again looking forward to every day and travelling to lots of different places safe in the knowledge I can now do this without someone else’s help all the time.Regain has played a crucial role in increasing my independence and mobility at a time of need and I know I am just one of the many tetraplegics Regain supports every year.

Kylie - Regain is an amazing charity – I took part in the Vietnam to Cambodia Ride on a handcycle provided by Regain and came back inspired and motivated.  I am now the only female in the GB Wheelchair Rugby Team.  Regain has helped many people like me get back into sport by buying them rugby wheelchairs.

About the charity

Regain is the only charitable organisation dedicated solely to improving the independence of all British men & women who have become tetraplegic as a result of a sporting or leisure accident. A tetraplegic is unable to walk and has limited reach & dexterity because use of the arms is severely impaired.
