Story
A massive thank you to everyone who has sponsored me or donated on my Just Giving Page here along with your lovely, kind, encouraging messages.
Mission complete. On Friday 17th April 2015 I trekked for 4 days at high altitude to reach my goal charity fundraising destination of Machu Picchu via the old Inca Trail. It took me way out of my comfort zone, camping on the mountain side, travelling across the world to a far away place on my own and the challenging trek itself up, down and around the Andes and Amazon rainforest. I wanted to do this to raise money for Hillview Lodge a mental Health unit in memory of my dear brother MartinLye. Please see Martins story below.
I lost my dear Brother Martin Lye at the very young age of 32 years old. He was a gentle caring giant, loved very much by all his family and friends. A hard working laborer with a passion for rock music. Unfortunately he got into bad habits and started taking drugs. This eventually lead to his sad sudden death at his flat in Paulton just after his birthday on the 23rd August 2006. Such a waste of life. Martin would of been 40 last year. During his later years he was helped in rehabilitation on numerous occasions by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) Hillview Lodge under Doctor Jelly at the Royal United Hospital. They provide invaluable services for people with mental health issues relating to drug or alcohol dependancy and mental health services with learning difficulties. I wanted to give something back to this unit in Martin's memory to help other people with similar problems. Hoping they can help get them through difficult times and provide a brighter future.
Plus £100 which has been kindly donated directly to Hillview Lodge from the Rotary Club of Somer Valley Trust Fund.
Big thank you to award winning psychotherapist Daran Bailey who has kindly run a mental health course at Writhlington Sports Center. The course raised £550.00 for Hillview Lodge.
Thank you so much to everyone that has sponsored, donated or helped in the fundraising. I couldn't have done this without you!
Here's to health and well being for all.
Much appreciation
