Lawrence Sherriffs, or Loz as he was known, was a friend and Rugby team mate of mine. He suddenly collapsed and died in 2013 of an undiagnosed heart condition which we later found out was called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
Loz was a keen Rugby player, playing for Old Laurentian RFC, Lutterworth RFC and the Prison Service (his work place). Loz was a gentle giant and is sorely missed by all who knew him.
I decided after completing a series of cycling charities over the last few years which was to cycle from coast to coast at thinnest, widest and longest points of Great Britain, and being prompted by friends who had joined me on those challenges, to organise another challenge. This one is called 'The Big 5 Cycle Challenge of Great Britain & Ireland' and will see myself and 7 others (5 cycling, 2 support drivers and a sports therapist to keep us going!) ride from Edinburgh to Belfast to Dublin to Cardiff to London in 5 days. A total of 650 miles in 5 days averaging 130 miles a day. The hardest part of the challenge will be on the final day when we ride from Cardiff to London.... 175 miles in one day!
I wanted to raise money for a worthy cause and it was an obvious choice to do something for Loz, so I found the heart charity Cardiomyopathy UK who help people who are effected by this disease.
We are also riding in memory of Kate Vanloo, Kate rode part of the JOGLE we completed in 2014 and helped us to raise a staggering £10,500. Kate was tragically killed in a cycling accident in early January and we will miss her so much.
Please give what you can for this epic challenge so that the charity can continue its brilliant work.
