Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Gary Brian Prescott, known to many as The Biking Birder. For three years, 2010, 2015 and 2016, I cycled around the United Kingdom, raising money for the RSPB, the W&WT, Asthma UK and a Peruvain charity for a group of indigenous rainforest children at Chaskwasi-Manu.

During these years I visited all of the RSPB's and W&WT's nature reserves and listed all of the different bird species I saw. An aim to be the UK Green Birding Year list record holder was achieved. Also the aim of being the highest Green Birding Year List record holder in Europe was achieved. Now I want the World record. This is currently held by Dorian Anderson of the USA and stands at 618 bird species.

May I here say that my Green Birding lists are not the Greenest. That honour in Europe is held by Ponc Feliu Latorre of Barcelona. I used a few ferries during the year in order to get to the far flung northern islands of Scotland; namely Orkney, Shetland and Fair Isle.

My record is listed though with a big 'F' in brackets behind my name!

In 2018, in April I will start my Biking Birder Adventure in Peru.

I feel the reality of next year will be that I will see over 800 different species of bird, achieved by visiting many habitats and ecosystems including coastal, oceanic, Andean mountains, cloud and rainforest.

A journey of two months approximately cycling from the Peruvian Pacific coast to Machu Picchu and across the Andes before heading down the famous Manu Road to the Madre de Dios River. From here the kayaking and rainforest trekking will begin. Four months of this will take me to Puerto Maldnado and Tambopata National Park.

Across the World nature is under threat from multiple man-made problems, be that Climate Change, habitat destruction, invasive species and pollution. I am supporting Birdlife International because of their all encompassing work in so many nations.

Please support my efforts by making a donation here. Every penny, cent, Sole or Euro is a boost to my legs and arms and to those that do I sincerely thank you and hope that we can talk online or personally sometime.
