We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have typed up my cancer story so far, have a read and hopefully we can raise some money for a fantastic charity.

In June 2017 my life changed, I heard the words you have cancer. I had been diagnosed with Stage 3 Bowel Cancer and was only 27. My son Charlie was only born in March and I remember holding my wifes hand and thinking why me!

The question I then asked was how are we going to fight this. I was supposed to have 3 rounds of Chemotherapy but after the second I didn't show any signs of it helping so was fitted with a colostomy bag and started a 28 day course of Radiotherapy. I remember waking up one morning 4 or 5 days in to the new treatment and wondering what happened to all the symptoms I had. They were all gone and I felt amazing!

I had scans after the Radiotherapy was complete and they shown a good response to the tumour and lymph nodes.

I then had a minimum of 8 weeks to allow my body to heal before surgery would be discussed. I thought this to be a great time to lose some weight and get fit ready for the big day, so I bought a road bike and started cycling. Going back to work part time has allowed me to fit cycling in as part of my daily routine but as the weeks went on and the pounds started to drop I found the need to cycle further and further. I have now just completed my first 100km week and am over 2 stone lighter.

All through this saga everyone has been fantastic! My family has been by my side every step of the way and everyone at work have made sure I have nothing to worry about other than getting better. Thank you to everyone for your help & support!

The worst thing about cancer is it doesn't just attack the person with the disease. It takes its toll on your family and friends, everyone goes through it.

This is why I wanted to raise money and awareness and put the word out that you are never to young.

With my new found hobby/mode of transport I have managed to convince 8 friends to cycle the distance from my place of work, Ocean BMW in Plymouth to BMW HQ in Munich. This totals 884 miles and if that wasn't hard enough we will have a time limit of 24 hours. This will be completed in the showroom with 3 cyclists riding at a time over 2 days 7am-7pm so please come and cheer us on.

I'm grateful to everyone who has agreed to cycle next to me. I'm not sure if they are fully aware of what they have let themselves in for as only 2 of the 8 other riders are cyclists!
