Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the Brian Field Memorial Ride JustGiving page.

  • Supporting Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust
  • Cycling a complete loop of Cornwall
  • 312 Miles (see the route in the pictures section)
  • 502 km
  • 3 days @ over 100 miles each day
  • Tackling hills amounting to a higher combined altitude than Mt. Everest

In memory of our colleague and friend Brian, we will ride the complete coast of Cornwall in just 3 days. This will mean riding over 100 miles on each day, through one of the UK's lumpiest counties. At the end of the 3 days we will have covered over 300 miles and climbed over 29,000 feet of hills, equaling the height of Mount Everest.

Brian was a true traveler and adventurer, so this seems an appropriate way for us to remember him and show support for one of his favourite charities, the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust. Cornwall Air Ambulance flies more than 800 lifesaving missions each year throughout Cornwall, delivering a vital service in a county with many remote areas and where people in need can be far from help.

Brian was tragically taken too soon when he had a heart attack while out enjoying his passion of bird watching, a hobby for which he had gained much personal recognition and would go to great lengths to carry out.

He was  a very warm and friendly person who was always keen to have a  meaningful conversation, especially about travel or his love of nature and wildlife. Brian would take a genuine interest in people, he would often bring in books about subjects he knew I had an interest in. He was also an incredibly fun character who really knew how to unwind, his spirit and generosity at company functions is legendary.

Ross and I worked with Brian over many years. He was instrumental in the founding of the successful business Construction Materials Online which now employs almost 100 people.

Ross and I have been cycling for a number of years and have previously completed 100 mile rides in Cornwall, Devon and London. Neither of us have ever ridden two 100 miles rides back to back and this challenge will mean we ride three 100 miles rides back to back. We will have to train for between 6 and 8 hours per week, covering around 500/600 miles a month.

We plan to take on this challenge between 28th April and 1st May 2019
