I have set myself a challenge of running a marathon every month in 2021.

You may say this isn't a challenge as I love running but to keep fitness up for a whole year and to run 26.2 miles each month will take it's toll I am sure. (and is taking its toll)

As this is going to be something out of my comfort zone I thought it would be a great opportunity to raise some money for charity.

I'm fundraising for Alzheimer's Research UK, the UK's leading dementia research charity dedicated to diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure.

I have chosen this charity as my Dad had this horrible disease. He spend the last few years of his life in a care home. It was sad to see him in this state a changed man from the Dad that brought me up.

In April 2020 he was admitted to QA with breathing problems and this is where he spent his last hours before Covid closed him down. We were not able to be with him and I said goodbye on the phone in the hope he could hear me.

At least he is at peace now away from this horrible disease, he would not have wanted to live his life the way he was.

Just this week (October 21) it has been confirmed my mum also has Alzheimer's, we knew her memory was fading and suspected this was the cause and now we have the confirmation from doctors. 

At least now they can give her some medication to slow the decline down, she wont be cured and her memory wont improve. It is great that this treatment is there and this is down to research. The next step is to try and fine a cure so the next generation don't have to suffer with this disease as well.

This past year has been a really tough time for charities & without our help they can't carry on doing the great work in trying to work out ways to manage Alzheimer's and hopefully in time a cure.
