Thanks for taking the time to visit our team’s JustGiving page in memory of Addie Kosmaczewska.
We are running the Brighton ‘hilly’ marathon and 10K on the 15th April 2018. Our team consists of the marathoners: Ruth, Stefan, Will, Gabi, and the 10kers: Laura and Hannah!!
Due to a fracture in Frankie's knee she will be participating in a cycling fundraiser too. Frankie will be cycling from North London to Brighton on the same day which is a heck of a way and will join us at the end! We all want to raise money for Bloodwise to fund research so that one day blood cancer will be as treatable as fixing a broken arm.
Blood cancer is the third biggest cancer killer and the fifth most common cancer in the UK, claiming 14,000 lives each year - more than breast or prostate cancer. As you are all mostly aware Bloodwise is a charity that means a lot to our team and many others!
Addie died aged 24 on the 25/10/15 as a result of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (a blood cancer that develops rapidly). We wanted to do something that would help other families in the future and also commemorate her passing. Her consultant at the time suggested that Bloodwise would be the best way to make a difference in the future, to help others affected by the disease.
Bloodwise is a magnificent organization that funds world-class research to beat blood cancer! For example, just over a month ago the FDA approved the introduction of gene therapy for children and young people who had relapsed or refractory acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Additionally, Bloodwise is a great support network for patients and their families; after running the Amsterdam half marathon in 2016 I became part of the huge community that Bloodwise are practically and emotionally supporting.
On a side note, it is going to be a real challenge for all of us. The 10kers have never been able to run further than 5km and the marathon runners, are not the most athletic of teams ( I am struggling to make it past 30 minutes!)…WHAT A TEAM.
We'd be grateful for any donation, big or small. Most people are happy to pay for a £3 coffee, could we please ask you to give up one coffee this week for a worthwhile cause? We need to raise £2,500 to be able to run in the marathon for Bloodwise, will you help us with this target?
