Bringing Freedom's Story
My name is Naomi Bruce and Bringing Freedom is my small non-profit Cornish Charity to help end human trafficking and slavery. The purpose of my charity is to passionately support the work of Love146 & the A21 Campaign.
After hours of investigating I chose to walk part of 'The Way of St. James' in Spain from Burgos to Santiago de Compostela. The walk ended up totalling to 327 miles. To be completed in 17 days. On average I will be covering a walking distance of 20 miles (30 km) per day.
Demelza Rouncefield chose to exit the challenge on day two, to carry on the journey as a holiday. Demelza has chosen to use her free time to complete her trip in 50 days by extending her one night stops to a few night stops or more and to reduce her daily mileage, still creating awareness on her way.
Yulia Doroff from Russia was touched by Bringing Freedom and Love146 story that she decided to join me on my adventure and challenge, to carry on walking to fully support our two campaigns. Yulia was suppose to finish in Leon as she started in St.Jean and had already completed Leon to Santiago de Compostela last November, so there was no need for her to walk on after Leon. Yulia showed support, strength, courage and provided laughter at our times which were very hard. Thank you Yulia for walking most of 'The Way' with me.
Why the challenge?
At times I find myself sitting down in silence thinking about the world we live in. I am always grateful and thankful to God for its beauty, how the destinations bring us joy by offering their history, culture, magnificent oceans, and the people who are in our lives. Even though we have these marvelous gifts we unfortunately have darkness and cruelty in the world too. Human trafficking, the second largest criminal crime in the world. Love146 have quoted that in 2012, the U.K. Human Trafficking Centre identified 549 children who were potential victims of human trafficking, and an estimated 60% of these children went missing from local authority care.
To walk the Burgos to Camino de Santiago to help spread the word about the facts on human trafficking and to create awareness. Every little movement we do to help create awareness and funds will help decrease the number of woman and children being captured and lured into the trafficking industry. So our goal is to raise a massive £1000.00 for the Love146 through Bringing Freedom.
"I know that I can't physically save someone with my own bare hands but what I can do with YOUR help is make a difference to someone's life by creating awareness and funds for Love146 through my Bringing Freedom charity. If WE can save one girls or boys life, it is worth EVERYTHING to me, let's join together to make a difference"
