Story

Thanks for visiting Bristol Legal Sector Community Engagment Group page (hosted through Bristol Law Society) to show support for and raise funds for the
people of Ukraine.

Why?  Many of you will have contributed already to fundraising for Ukraine. However, the members of the BLS Community Engagement Group believe that this is an opportunity for the legal community to come together to show their support for the people of Ukraine and to fundraise for them. Together we can make a greater impact.

What? On behalf of our members, the BLS Community Engagement Group invites everyone working in our regional legal sector to come together for a day of solidarity and fundraising.

How?  By joining us for a Blue and Yellow day – the colours of the Ukrainian flag.

  • Whether in your place of work or working from home, please show your support for the people of Ukraine by wearing some blue and/or yellow items of clothing
  • Please make a donation to our
JustGiving page. All funds raised will be given to the
Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
  • Please take photos of yourselves and
your colleagues wearing your blue and yellow colours and post them on social media
    and tag them with #BLSblue&yellow

  2. The DEC’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal
    page includes the following information:

“More than 4 million people have fled
Ukraine since the conflict began. Leaving behind jobs, belongings and loved ones,
they now face an uncertain future.

Intense conflict in Ukraine is threatening the lives and livelihoods of
civilians across the country, with another 7 million displaced inside the
country. Families have been separated. People have been injured. Lives have
been lost.

Homes have been destroyed or are unsafe to live in. Critical
infrastructure such as health facilities, water supplies and schools have also
been damaged or destroyed.

At Ukraine’s borders with Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova,
huge numbers of people are arriving with only what they can carry. In many
places there are long waits to cross and scant facilities waiting for them on
the other side, with temperatures dipping overnight.

There have also been media reports of
racism against people of colour who are being refused access to relief, aid and
the right to cross the border to safety.”
