Story

Thanks for visiting our page!

We are a team of Professionals including Consultant Cardiologists, Cardiac Registrars, Staff Nurses, Cardiac Nurse Specialists and Cardiac Physiologists at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Following on from our successful 3 Peaks Challenge event in September 2011 from which we raised over £13000, we have set ourselves another challenge -- to walk the entire Cotswold Way, the 102-mile National Trail stretching from Chipping Campden to Bath, over 4 days from 3 - 6 May 2013!

We are raising money for equipment and resources for the Bristol Children's Cardiac Unit, including the development of a Hybrid Cardiac Catheter Laboratory. The funds raised on our previous challenge have gone towards equipping the ward with nursing chairs for breastfeeding mothers, which have been hugely welcomed by families. Thank you again if you have supported us previously!

The team consisted of:

Rob & Jill Martin, Andy Tometzki, Leonie Wong, Catherine Armstrong & Davy McGimpsey, Pradeesh Mappa, Sue Simpson & Ian Sleigh, Stella Stuart, Sian Eustace, Danny Knight, Gary Marsh, Marie Campbell & Mike Frost, Tariq Campbell, Anne Middelburg, Tessa Hubbard, Nicola Spray, Karen Spray and Izzy Nash.

The Children we care for suffer from a wide range of illnesses including congenital heart defects and heart rhythm problems. The nature of these problems means that many of our Children will be cared for in our hospital and often come back for repeat surgery, 'keyhole' or other medical procedures.

Staying in hospital can be a stressful time for both the children and their families. Because of this we want to make our ward as comfortable and inviting as possible. We hope to improve the quality of their stay here by using the money to purchase items such as sensory lights, pushcars and bumper seats for the children. Some of the money will go towards better equipping the Cardiac High Dependency Unit and Fetal Cardiac Unit and for the development of a new Hybrid Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, a pioneering facility which will enable us to provide more complex and integrated treatment and transform the care of children with congenital heart disease in the South West of England and South Wales

We, the Children and their families would so appreciate your help and support in completing this challenge!

Thank you!
