We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

Cameron Optometry is raising funds for the Guide Dogs Scotland Name a Puppy campaign. The staff at the practice regularly sees how blind or partially sighted people rely on guide dogs and we know how much they enrich their lives. So, the whole practice has been raising funds to put a puppy through its first year of training. It costs over £5,000 to support each guide dog puppy. We aren't far off so are hoping this challenge will help us raise the final £1000 we need to hit the £5000 target.

So, our team challenge is to walk, run or swim at least 1500 miles between us throughout March 2021. Everyone is taking on their own personal challenge, from cold water swimming, to running/walking an impressive 100 miles. We would so appreciate your support to get us over the line. Then we'll be looking for suggestions for names!

About Guide Dogs Scotland

When someone loses their sight, Guide Dogs Scotland is there to make sure they don’t lose their freedom as well. Their Edinburgh, Forfar and Glasgow teams provide life-changing mobility services to adults, children and young people with sight loss throughout Scotland. It is their mission to not rest until people who are blind or partially sighted can enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else. Find more about the great work of the Guide Dogs in Scotland here www.guidedogs.org.uk/guide-dogs-scotland/

Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives. Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
