We help the children of Cambodia escape destitution, through education and training so they can qualify for a worthwhile job and lead a dignified life.

Story

Dear friends,

Please take 5 minutes to read this short story.

It's about two people at opposite ends of the world. The first is a girl called Kunthie.  She has never attended school. She spends her days breaking up rocks in a local Cambodian quarry to contribute to the family meagre income. Every meal consists of rice and fish paste. Her father is a violent alcoholic whose aim is to sell Kunthie into prostitution. Kunthie is 1 1 years old.

The second is a woman who, six years ago, was invited to attend a charity event in London. She was working as a lawyer at the time. It was a rainy November evening and she was tired. As she approached the tube stop where the event was being held, she was tempted not to get off. She wanted to go home to be with her two young kids. But she didn't. And she's so thankful that she didn't. The charity's work so touched her that today she is trustee and co-chair of its London branch called FOR A CHILD'S SMILE (FCS).

As you may have guessed, this woman is me, and as many of you know, in two short weeks, I am running 42 km in Berlin to raise funds for children like Kunthie who today has been admitted into FCS's health and education programme. It's a happy ending for her but thousands of children are still desperate for help.

Please help me reach my target of £5000 by donating on this page!  Every little bit helps!
