We build thriving gardens in spinal centres to nurture lives after spinal injury

Story

The Nuts Challenge is one of the toughest and muddiest obstacle course in the UK featuring approximately 100 man-made and natural obstacles, mud ditches , water slides and high tyre walls over a 7km lap.

Horatio’s Garden is a charity that creates and lovingly cares for beautiful accessible gardens in NHS spinal injury centres.

Horatio was planning to study medicine and  really enjoyed volunteering at the Salisbury spinal centre. He established the need for a beautiful garden to be designed, creating an environment which becomes an integral part of patients lives as well as those of families and friends whilst spending many months in hospital.Tragically, at the age of 17, while on an expedition to Svalbard, he was killed by a polar bear.

Spinal cord injuries are traumatic, life-changing events. Patients often have little or no access to the outside world during their hospital stay, yet research shows that being in contact with a natural environment contributes to an improved sense of wellbeing, which can have a positive impact on patient rehabilitation.

My Mum and Dad both supported the charity for the last few years, having been moved by the tragic circumstances of this young man. My Dad, Richard Quick, worked as an architect for many years and always took great interest and pride in garden designs, leading to his support of Horatio.

Thankyou for visiting my page, and any donations would be greatly appreciated.
