Earlier this year I had a life saving heart procedure at Liverpool Heart and Chest hospital. To express my sincere thanks and offer my support to this NHS Centre of Excellence, I am going to be running the ‘Liverpool 5k Santa Dash’ in December with my friends and family 

Before the operation simple daily tasks and even walking upstairs became almost impossible. 

I had rheumatic fever as a child which had damaged my heart valves. As the years progressed I developed symptoms which lead to the deterioration of the function of my heart.

Last year I was told that I was going into heart failure and lifesaving heart surgery was essential.  

My cardiologist referred me to Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital who specialise in a relatively new minimally invasive procedure. The breastbone is not cut, although the operation takes longer the end result leads to a quicker recovery with almost no scarring. I was fortunate to be offered such pioneering surgery at this North West hospital.

I had the procedure earlier this year and within two and a half weeks I returned to work, was driving, exercising and enjoying a quality of life I hadn’t had for many years. 

I hope to raise as much money as I can to help contribute to the work they do at LHCH. The centre supported the first robotic heart and lung surgery programme in the UK. They have developed a 3D heart project so that patients can better understand their condition. 

To show my sincere gratitude to Mr Modi and his theatre team, staff in Intensive Care and on the ward - every member of staff was kind and conscientious. I’m so grateful to everyone at LHCH for the treatment and care I received, I feel fitter than ever and ten years younger! 

Without this hospital, the outcome could have been very different for me.
