Story

Cancer diagnosis

In March 2017 our 7-year old daughter Caroline was diagnosed with an inoperable stage 4 cancerous tumour in her head (embryonal parameningeal Rhabdomyosarcoma).

She underwent 9 rounds of gruelling chemotherapy at the Great North Children's Hospital at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary and 32 rounds of proton beam radiotherapy over 10 weeks in Oklahoma, USA (funded by the NHS).

Miracle remission

Miraculously, in October 2017 Caroline's MRI scan showed that her treatment had been successful, and she was classed as being in remission! She has gone from strength to strength and is currently a year into remission, being closely monitored with 3-monthly and now 4-monthly MRIs and chest X-rays along with other regular checks until she reaches the 5 year remission milestone.

Childhood cancer awareness

Caroline has been keen to promote cancer awareness throughout her treatment and jumped at the chance to help launch and take part in the 2019 Children's Cancer Run for the NECCR. The charity carries out groundbreaking research into all childhood cancers, working towards cures and making treatments less invasive and more tailored in the meantime.

Running despite cancer

Caroline decided to take part in the run, inspiring me (not a runner at all!) and Michael to join in too.

We'd love you to sponsor us to help raise money for this brilliant charity.
