In 1982 I was part of the taskforce that went to the Falklands. After the conflict my life changed, and I never spoke about it to anyone, ( it's hard to talk to someone who wasn't there), from 1984 until 2010, I hadn't seen any other veterans from the conflict, then by chance at work I meet someone who had served with me, and he told me about SAMA (82) and the work they do. On looking at thier website I saw they were looking for 50 veterans to go back to the Falklands to take part in the 30th anniversary, after lots of thought and sleepless nights, filling in the application and shredding it and filling it in again, I finally posted it. Then all the worrying started, had I done the right thing or not.
Well I needn't have worried, due to the trip I met lots of veterans like me from all the services and some of the next of kin who had died in the conflict. The islands and the Islanders welcomed us with open arms and warm hearts. After the trip I was more at peace with myself and the world.
There are still alot out there who are haven't heard of SAMA (82) and the help available.
