Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Cycling4Cancer JustGiving page.

In April 2012, I began my cycle ride from England to Australia to raise money for the Association of International Cancer Research (AICR). The ride will take at least 18 months and total over 30,000km, taking me through more than 30 countries. You can find out more about my trip at www.cycling4cancer.com.

Cancer is a condition that affects us all. I lost my mother to breast cancer at the age of two, and it has made a profound impact on my life. Over the years many of my friends and family have been diagnosed with various types of cancer. By donating money to AICR, you will be directly assisting the ongoing fight to find a cure to cancer.

AICR is an independent charity whose global aim is to save lives that are being lost to cancer by improving prevention, detection and treatment. AICR is the only charity dedicated to the worldwide scientific fight against cancer. Since 1980, AICR has played a major role in funding ground breaking cancer research. At present they are funding over 215 cancer research projects in more than 23 countries.

Hitching4Cancer: Not happy to just sit at home and watch my Cycling4Cancer adventure, my friend Jon Maiden decided to race me to the Arctic Circle by hitchhiking 2000 miles from Yorkshire (also to raise money for the AICR). We each had 7 days. Jon needed to hitchhike 300 miles a day. I had 400 miles to cover at 60 miles per day. The result: arriving in the Arctic after 6 days, Jon narrowly won the race by a meagre 96km despite me cycling over 200km in a single day!
