Hi, thanks for following the link.
This year, instead of inviting friends, both often and seldom seen, to join me in a drink to celebrate another consecutive trip around the sun, I’m going through my second round of chemotherapy this morning.
There hasn’t seemed to be a good time to make an announcement since the discovery of my cancer in October. Despite the many platforms available for mass public communication it just hasn't felt right, but with my birthday fast approaching, positive news to share and a fundraising opportunity too, now seems too perfect a time to miss.
My surgery, brutal and debilitating with a long recovery period but thankfully no permanent life limiting repercussions, successfully removed the tumour from my body in December. Now, chemotherapy is hunting down and destroying the errant cancer cells in the rest of me over three months of treatment. I will then undergo one more operation to put me back together, hopefully in time to begin getting fit again in summer.
The NHS has been exceptional throughout, from diagnosis to surgery, aftercare and treatment. I have been offered physiotherapy, massage, a dedicated dietician, a 24hr hotline and on call specialist nurses in both hospitals treating me. All of this and my prescription meds are free and delivered by kind and caring doctors and nurses, visibly rushed off their feet but nonetheless taking the time to reassure and inform me, to make me feel more than just a science experiment.
So, if you’d have liked to buy me a drink, or just feel like I do that, this cause deserves your support please hit the donate button for Shine, a worthy cancer charity offering support to folk and their families going through cancer treatment.
