We help children and their families to cope facing and following bereavement

Story

Losing my Dad to cancer in November 2015 hit me very hard.

What was also very hard was to see the impact it had on my eldest daughter, Olivia.

Fortunately for her and the whole family, we were put in touch with an amazing charity, Daisy's Dream.

Daisy's Dream is a professional support service which responds to the needs of children and families affected by life threatening illness or bereavement, working across Berkshire and the surrounding areas.

Originally set up to meet the needs of children who had been bereaved, over recent years they have expanded their services to encompass families where there has been a serious illness diagnosis.

Olivia was supported initially in a group session, where parental support was also provided and then later in 2017, via a series of 1 on 1tailored outreach visits at her school with a professional. Through Daisy's Dream  Olivia is now much more at peace with her loss, and has the tools confidence and memories to deal with her bereavement more constructively.

Daisy's Dream need to raise around £400,000 a year to continue the amazing work they do for children in need of bereavement or serious illness support. I am so grateful they were there for Olivia.

It's time for me to give back.

Not being known for the curly type handlebar, mountain bike only, why have I taken the challenge to ride 100 miles in a few hours around London and Surrey? Simple, Daisy's Dream have places in the event purely for fund raising. Knowing I can ride off road, on road should be simple - right? I will take to the streets on 29th July, along with 25,000 other cyclists to cover the 100 mile course in hopefully around 5.5 hours.

  • What is Prudential RideLondon?

Prudential RideLondon is the world’s greatest festival of cycling, with more than 100,000 cyclists expected to participate during the weekend of 28-29 July 2018. This will be the fifth edition of the festival.

It combines the fun and accessible element of a free family ride in central London with the excitement of watching the world’s best professional cyclists race. Taking a cue from the London Marathon, amateur cyclists also participate by riding a 100-mile challenge on the same closed roads as the professional men, with the added incentive of raising money for good causes. The best action is broadcast live on TV both on BBC TV in the UK and internationally.
