We help children who've lost someone close to access opportunities for the future

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.  I am running the London Marathon on 2nd October 2022 to raise money for charity and am raising money for two charities, the first set up by a dear family friend in memory of his Son, and the second, The Pc Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund.

PCNHMF was founded by Nicola Hughes family with the aim of supporting Children and young people who have lost one or both parents through violent crime to help ensure that they don’t miss out in opportunities or face hardship in addition to bereavement. Since it was founded after Nicola and crew mate PC Fiona Bone were murdered on duty, the PCNHMF has funded specialist grief counselling for children, school uniforms, equipment for apprenticeships, college courses and Duke of Edinburgh courses. I know times are tough for everyone at the moment, but ask that you might consider sponsoring me, the cost of a take away coffee, a glass of wine or a pint will make a big difference to the families who receive support from the PCNHMF and your sponsorship of my list crazy idea / toughest sports challenge in my life would mean the world to me too.

The reason I felt able to rise to the challenge of a full marathon and apply for a space in the ballot was because of the support and encouragement I received as part of a group of people who run for PCNHMF, so I knew I wanted to fundraise for this charity too. Although shocked and incredibly saddened at the time by the death of Fiona and Nicola in 2012,  It took me a few years to discover Run to Remember (R2R) in 2019 and I signed up to run those  2 miles everyday for 100 consecutive days. I did this again in 2020 which was no mean feat around lockdown when Chris and I were still working shifts, including nights and would often pass each other as one came in from work and one left for work.

The next step up was the London Vitality Half Marathon.  Which I ran in August last year. Naturally without the PCNHMF, the peer support of my fellow blue light family from across the Country and the steadfast encouragement and support of Bryn Hughes (Nicola’s Dad), I would definitely not be running at a level where I felt I could even consider running a Marathon, therefore in addition to It’s Never You, I am also fundraising for PCNHMF.
