When Covid 19 hit in March this year, life obviously changed for everyone in so many ways. As midwives, doctors, support workers and sonographers our work life became challenging in ways we had not experienced before, and coping with the stress became more difficult as all our outlets for helping release stress were gone. A few of us decided that the hour a day we were permitted for being outside could be used to try and get fit, so we decided to do the couch to 5k. We set up a Whatts app group to offer support to each other, so we could encourage each other, share our successes but also provide support when it was hard. We all found running an invaluable coping strategy and the support from each other was amazing. We would now like to give something back to all the women and families who have also struggled through the Covid 19 pandemic. One of the hardest things to see throughout this is the fear and anxiety that the women have felt when coming into hospital during their pregnancy and to give birth. We would like to raise money to help improve the comfort and facilities for the women attending the Maternity unit. A small group of us plan to run, walk, cycle or swim a combined total of 200 miles in a weekend. All the money raised will be for Dorset County Hospital Maternity unit to help improve the facilities for the women and their partners during their stay.
