The Great Outdoors · 11 May 2018

Since 1885, thanks to the public's support, we continue to provide welfare and wellbeing assistance tailored to our Armed Forces community. We know and understand the unique demands of service life, whether in the UK or overseas, and in times of need, we help to enable the Forces family to thrive.

Story

Over the period 10 May - 25 May 2018 WO1 Clive Cooper and SSgt Rob Leech of 11 Inf Bde SPS Branch will be taking part in "The Great Outdoors Challenge".  This is a self-supported trek from the Westside of Scotland (we will be starting from Mallaig) to the Eastside of Scotland (end site will be Johnshaven just below Aberdeen) the distance is approximately 260 miles.

"The Great Outdoors Challenge" is a self-supported Coast to Coast backpacking adventure.  In essence, it is about experiencing the remote parts of Scotland you can only reach by foot.  Wild camping is a large part of the experience.

We will be looking to cover 20-26 miles per day and stopping every 3rd day at campsites or small villages en route to resupply rations, water and use the public convenience :).

Clive Cooper has been working with SSAFA for over a year now and felt the awareness of SSAFA and what they can and do for serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces is not publicising enough to those who need the help and assistance.
