Re-engage helps people aged 75 and older to overcome loneliness and social isolation through volunteer-led social activity groups and telephone befriending. Your support can help provide a lifeline of friendship and give lonely older people something special to look forward to.

Story

"The time I feel most lonely is after six o'clock at night but when I have been out to a Contact tea then I don't feel lonely at all, just fresh memories of a lovely afternoon out with friends"

Welcome to the main page of Contact the Elderly's British 10K teams, who all took part last Sunday on a cold, overcast and slightly wet morning.  We were delighted to have 36 runners representing us on the day, and everyone had a great time raising money to help us create two brand new Contact the Elderly groups in London .

In order of fundraising to date, our intrepid teams are:

Ernst & Young London IA team - www.justgiving.com/iabritish10k - £1602.00

Ernst & Young Reading and Friends - www.justgiving.com/eyreading10k - £1244.82

Louise, Helen & Jan - www.justgiving.com/louisehelenjanbritish10km - £1022.44

BSkyB and Friends - www.justgiving.com/bskybrunningforcontact and www.justgiving.com/finn10krun - £908.00

Sarah, Vicky and Lianna - www.justgiving.com/sarahtuckerbritish10krun and www.justgiving.com/missvrp - £775.00

Jonathan Craig and Grant Powell - http://www.justgiving.com/jonathancraig - £420.00

Abel Martins Alexandre - http://www.justgiving.com/abelforcontacttheelderly - £335.00

Ernst & Young London LAP team - www.justgiving.com/EYLAP - £330.00

Natasha Mahadeva - all collected offline - £280.00

We also hope to raise an extra £4,504.82 from Ernst and Young, BSkyB and the employers of Jonathan Craig, who have all agreed to 'match' their sponsorship, which brings the amount raised to well over £11,000 - a fantastic total which will enable us to do a great deal of good for elderly people who live alone.

This next bit is mostly for the interest of our runners - the times (in no particular order)

Alistair Callender: 52 minutes, Finn Curry: 50 minutes, Fraser Stirling: 54 minutes, Jan Bingham: 49 minutes, Meabh Gallagher: 52 minutes, Carla Holmes: 1 hour 18 minutes, Daryle Knight: 58 minutes, Nick Barnes: 51 minutes, Rachel Byrne: 1 hour 7 minutes, Steve Holmes: 53 minutes, Umit Cigdem: 1 hour 7 minutes, Jan Gruter: 50 minutes, Louise Jary: 57 minutes, Abel Martins Alexandre: 52 minutes, Grant Powell: 57 minutes, Jonathan Craig: 1 hour, Benito Grimaudo: 55 minutes, Carl Liddy: 50 minutes, Greg Dobson, 55 minutes, Jonathan Constable: 44 minutes, Mark Jones: 46 minutes, Nicholas Parker: 55 minutes, Tabrez Khan: 55 minutes, Lianna Martin: 57 minutes, Sarah Tucker: 57 minutes, Vicky Ridley-Pearson: 1 hour 5 minutes, Lee Lloyd: 1 hour 11 minutes (am very happy about this time!).

We are still fundraising towards these groups, and any extra money we raise past the £10,000 will still be used to support our work in London, so please give as much as you can!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Contact The Elderly will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
