Hi, I'm Faye and I'm three years old. I am best friends with a girl called Lucy who has been helped greatly by this amazing charity. I also have a nephew called Owen who was the first baby to be operated on at the hospital. So far I have climbed 20 Munros including Ben Nevis and Englands highest mountain, Scafell Pike.  My Daddy helps me but it is still very tough, especially nappy changes in gale force winds ha ha.  I think it best to read Lucy's story through her mum's words to understand why I'm climbing Wale's highest mountain.  This will be my second fundraising challenge and my dad will be helping. It will be super tough but nothing compared to what families who are supported by the charity go through on a daily basis.

Here's Lucy's story.  


"After 5 rounds of IVF and 3 miscarriages, we
finally fell pregnant with our miracle baby. And that’s exactly what Lucy is.

Hearing our longed for baby’s heartbeat for the first time was the best moment in our life so far! As long as there was a heartbeat then our baby was okay! Or so we naively thought! We found out at 23 weeks that Lucy's heart hadn’t developed properly. We were devastated but we knew we had to find out as much as we could about her condition and prepare ourselves for the future.

Lucy was born  in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.  Shortly after birth she was taken to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Glasgow Children's Hospital where her main diagnosis of Double Inlet Left Ventricle was made (in basic terms, she only had half a heart).

At 18 weeks old Lucy underwent her first open heart surgery at the same hospital. The 17th March 2016 was the longest, hardest day of our lives as we waited patiently for news from the Surgeon. The relief we felt when she arrived back in recovery was quite overwhelming and seeing her with all the tubes and machines was scary but at least she had survived and her surgery had gone as well as could be expected.

Lucy is 7 now and continues to thrive.  She attends the Children's Hospital for regular reviews and has had more open heart surgery a year ago.

The staff at the hospital are nothing short of amazing. From the day we found out about Lucy’s condition to now, everyone we have met has helped us to be confident in caring for Lucy and we honestly couldn’t trust them more! 

We have so much to thank them for and words are not
enough but hopefully we can help raise a little bit for their charity to help them to continue to support our warrior children and their families."
