Story

So, this year is all about challenges. I've set myself tasks to complete and experiences to live before the big 60. Some are quite a lot of fun, like music festivals and cocktails. Others are about facing my fears. As most of you know, I'm not very good with heights, although I'm getting better. I've been on the Bournemouth zip wire and actually enjoyed it (though the staircase was a bit terrifying!).

My next challenge is to walk part of Hadrian's Wall. We are doing a trek from Lanercost Priory to Cawfirks Quarry and Haltwhistle on the first day (15 miles) the first weekend of September. After a night in a tent (I obviously didn't learn the first time!) we continue to our finish line in Brocolitia (another 10 miles). I'm doing this with Jo and the trip is organised by Discover Adventure. Jo and I have been practising for the last few months on sunny days, wet days and even foggy days. This is a huge challenge for me. I don't like heights and unlike last time when I knew part of the route, this time we are going to a complete unknown which makes me quite uncomfortable. So, an important challenge and I'm pleased I'm doing this with Jo. I am sure we will have fun and support each other.

Jo and I have paid the trips for ourselves but I have decided to raise money for Harbour Cancer Support Centre. They provide cancer patients, their families, carers and friends with emotional and practical support. As you might know, I lost my brother Ricardo to cancer earlier this year. I want to pay homage to him. I was lucky in that work offered me counselling which help me get through the first couple of months but not everyone is quite that lucky, so organisations such as Harbour Cancer Support Centre provide invaluable help to those who need it. My mother in law, Audrey, relied on their emotional support when Barry passed away.

So can I ask you to please support me so that together we can support others that need it. Thanks!
