We support child refugees to feel safe to heal and free to thrive

Story

We are joining with other supporters of The Baca Charity in their effort to collectively walk 3000-miles. We have decided to take on walking 300 miles.

Our plan is to challenge ourselves to complete 4 long hikes as a staff team in order to achieve such an amazing amount of miles between us. Our goal for fundraising will be £3000 to reflect the total miles being aimed for by all of Baca’s supporters.

Why the Baca Charity?

The Baca Charity is a local charity in Loughborough which works to support young people seeking asylum and has a long standing relationship with CWS. For the past 5 years we have helped with their provision of amazing services and care for young refugees and asylum seekers. As web developers and designers we help handle the online challenges they have faced. We have created a user friendly and bespoke Web application which has helped their caseworkers to stay informed about their users easily and securely.

This summer though, we are getting a bit less technical and a bit more physical!

Why is it the 3000 mile challenge?

Baca has chosen 3000 miles as their combined total because that is the average length of a journey made by a young person seeking asylum. These journeys can take as long as two or three years and are often extremely traumatic and dangerous. Whilst we are deliberately aiming to complete more challenging distances for our challenge then our normal weekend ramble, it pales in comparison to the rigours many of Baca’s young people have faced.
