In April 2017 a group of friends are cycling the North Coast 500 for The Nicola Murray Foundation, a Scottish charity locally based in Edinburgh that funds research projects related to ovarian cancer.

Starting on the 2nd of April, Paul Barry (35, Charge Nurse) together with Sean Duncan (36, Credit Manager), Kevin Duncan (32, MD) and Stuart Downie (32, Visual Merchandiser) will undertake the challenge of cycling the North Coast 500.

The North Coast 500 route is a little over 500 miles of stunning, rugged scenery and follows the main roads across the coastal edges of the North Highlands taking in the villages and towns of Ullapool, Durness, John O'Groats, Dornoch and Inverness.

One of the many tests the group will face during this adventure will be the physical and mental challenges of cycling 100miles per day for 5 days with numerous hours on the saddle and no rest day..

In July 2012, the same group of friends cycled 100 miles a day from Edinburgh to Lourdes, France (raising a staggering £11, 750 for the same charity) so know that cycling 100miles a day will be both physically and mentally daunting. However the friends believe they will be able to stay positive and continually motivate and inspire each other throughout their adventure and feel confident of achieving their goal.

The group are undertaking this challenge to raise money for The Nicola Murray Foundation. All funds raised through the foundation are channelled directly to The Nicola Murray Centre for Ovarian Cancer Research. This unit seeks to advance understanding of the different types of the disease so that patients can be offered the most effective treatment for their specific condition.

The Nicola Murray Centre for Ovarian Cancer Research was established at the University of Edinburgh with generous support from the family and friends of Nicola, who died from the condition in 2010 at the age of 34.

The Nicola Murray Foundation was set up in her memory as a means to perpetuate the care and concern that she showed to others in her life.
