Story

A WORD FROM MILES:

My name is Miles Billington and I am 12. I was born in London, where I lived until I was 2, and I now live in Altrincham.  I am doing this sponsored bike ride because there are children out there that are less fortunate than I am, and I would like to help them by raising as much money as possible, whilst setting myself a big challenge! Eve and I met when we were 5 at a Halloween fancy dress party (our Mums are  good friends!)  and our friendship has grown over the years, especially recently as we now go to the same high school. We’d be so grateful if you could sponsor us as it would just be the best feeling to get to the finish line in Colwyn Bay having raised £2000 for Save The Children! I like to think of myself as an optimistic person who tries to see the best in life. I love acting and cycling, and I have a 14 month old dog so I get to do plenty of dog walking and ball throwing too! I keep saying to Eve how crazy it is that we are actually doing the bike ride and that we’ve come so far in no time at all! Our ride is 78 miles and we will be doing this over 4 days, stopping overnight with the help of our Support Crew (our Mums and my sister, Elsie!) Our training rides are going really well and we are getting the miles in every weekend!

A WORD FROM EVE:

Hello, my name is Eve Cripps and I am 13 years old. I was born in Trafford General Hospital and I have always lived in Altrincham. I first met Miles when I was 5, at a Halloween party. We have been very good friends ever since, especially towards the end of primary school, and now in high school. The idea of cycling to Wales came about one day when we were walking to school, and we thought “Wouldn’t it be fun to set ourselves a challenge…” and so here we are, planning and doing a bike ride to Wales! I have always been an active person - I go horse riding every week, I love playing with my two cats, Maxi and Rio, and I love cycling too. I was born with Cerebral Palsy, which is a lifelong condition and in my case affects both my arms and legs and also my balance.  I’ve had several operations to help with walking and using my right hand, but as people who know me will agree, I am a very determined person and I never let these things limit me or stop me from doing things I love! I want to do this cycle ride because there are so many children out there who haven’t had the best start in life and to know that we are helping them even just a tiny bit gives us the motivation to carry on and cross the finish line. Miles and I are doing lots of training rides, getting pretty muddy in the process and having lots of fun doing it! For
our very first session, we completed 15 miles (not bad for a first  attempt!) and we’re both very confident that we’ll reach the end with smiles on our faces!

ABOUT THE CHARITY:

Save The Children has been helping children for 100 years.  They help children in the toughest places to be a child. They do whatever it takes to make sure children survive, get protection when they’re in danger, and have the chance to learn. In 2017, they helped 13.3 million children. They tackle child poverty, protect children who are in danger, exploited or neglected, help malnourished children survive, fight for children's rights around the world and much, much more. Your sponsorship, however small, makes a difference.  £3 could buy rehydration salts to help children with diarrhoea, which can be life-threatening.  £7 could pay for clothing to help children in Afghanistan stay warm in the cold winter months and £12 could supply 75 sachets of therapeutic food paste to severely malnourished children.
