Story

Yn hollol annisgwyl ym mis Chwefror ‘flwyddyn diwethaf fe gafodd Kay fy ngwraig y newyddion ei bod efo canser y fron. Yn 34 mlwydd oed heb hanes teulu na ffactorau risg eraill, roedd yn anhygoel o sioc i ni, gweddill y teulu a’n ffrindiau. O’r pwynt hwnnw ymlaen, cafodd Kay y driniaeth oraf posib gan staff Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr. Roedd hyn yn cynnwys y Tîm Gofal y Fron yn Ysbyty Gwynedd, y staff ar ward Alaw, a’r staff yng nghanolfan canser Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. Mae hi bellach yn gwneud yn dda iawn ac wedi gallu cychwyn ‘nol yn ei gwaith.

Wrth fod wrth ochr Kay dros y misoedd diwethaf, dwi wedi cael fy atgoffa pa mor ffodus ydan ni i gael y Gwasanaeth Iechyd Genedlaethol yno i ni pan da ni ei angen. Dwi isio deud diolch ar fy rhan i a Kay, ac ar ran ein merch fach Greta sydd bellach yn ddyflwydd oed.

Dwi’n ffodus iawn hefyd i gael criw o ffrindiau da, a oedd yn fwy na parod i wneud Her y 3 Copa efo fi (dringo i fyny ac i lawr Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike a’r Wyddfa o fewn 24 awr). Bydd canser yn ein heffeithio ni gyd mewn un ffordd neu’r llall. Felly, dyma gyfle i godi arian i ward Alaw ac i’r gronfa ymchwil canser drwy Awyr Las fel y gall mwy o bobl elwa o’r driniaeth a’r gefnogaeth a gafodd Kay.

Diolch,

Dafydd a'r Tim

———————————

Completely unexpectedly in February last year my wife Kay was given the news that she had breast cancer. Aged 34 with no family history or other risk factors, it was a huge shock to us, our families, and our friends. From that point onwards, Kay received the best possible treatment from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board staff. This included the Breast Care Team in Ysbyty Gwynedd, the staff at Alaw ward, and staff at the Ysbyty Glan Clwyd cancer centre. She has since made an excellent recovery and is now back at work.

Being by Kay’s side over the past few months has reminded me how fortunate we are to have the National Health Service there when we need it. I want to say thank you on both our behalves, and also on behalf of our daughter Greta who’s just turned two years old.

I’m also fortunate to have a great group of friends who were more than willing to join me on this 3 Peaks Challenge (climbing up and down Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours). Cancer will impact each and every one of us at some point in our lives. This is an opportunity to raise money for Alaw ward and the cancer research fund through Awyr Las so that more people can benefit from the treatment and support that Kay was fortunate to receive.

Thank you,

Dafydd and the Team
