Story

The challenge is to compete at a British Eventing 80 event in the autumn of 2017. To get there will require many other challenges along the way - such as getting fit, losing weight, conquering nerves, training hard, and learning the skills necessary to be able to compete safely, all to raise money for the wonderful Willberry Wonder Pony - inspired by Hannah Francis

What is a Wobbleberry?
- Someone not currently fit enough to get around a cross country course
- Someone not currently brave enough to get around a cross country course
- Someone old enough to know better, and know that this will hurt!
- Someone dedicated to raising money, to training, and conquering the fear
- Being supportive of each other - aiming to be weeble-esque, "we wobble, but we don't fall down".

About Us
Merlyn is a 14.3hh Welsh Section D, approx. 14hh wide, and I am a ‘curvy’ middle aged woman at 5ft 2.

I met my partner in crime approx. 4 years ago when he was rising 5, our first experience in the arena was an interesting one as he bucked every stride of canter and was the cheekiest thing on 4 legs! Now I know I should have known better but his ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ face got the better of me, and stole my heart.

We have ‘had a go’ at most equestrian disciplines at a local level, not being very successful in any, mostly due to my ‘Show Time’ nerves but also Merlyn has the attention span of a 2yr old and likes to test my skills…
Merlyn likes to put on a show when in the dressage arena, for example laughing at the dressage judge all the way down the centre line; head in the air showing his pearly whites, and jumping over the little white poles marking out the arena, and jumping the pretty plant pots around the sides, and showing that he can do the 20m circle at a gallop!

When it comes to jumping he knows it all, and I need not worry as we hurtle towards jumps as if his butt is on fire, it’s all good…don’t know what I’m worried about really.

The challenges for us include: Improving our partnership in working together, trusting each other more when it gets tough, getting fit, building stamina, getting over my nerves, improving our technical ability... the list goes on… but I am up for the challenge, and I know my boy will love it… even if to just think up more ways to embarrass his mum!

This is a real test for us, but Hannah's strength and courage has inspired me to give this a go.

Thanks for taking the time to read my story and visit this page. I would be grateful for any sponsorship but if you can't afford it please don't feel pressured but I would be pleased if you could share my page and help me raise as much as possible.
