Story

Early in 2017 our nephew and godson Digby was diagnosed with Perthes Disease a rare childhood condition that affects the hip. It occurs when the blood supply to the rounded head of the thighbone is temporarily disrupted. Without an adequate blood supply, the bone cells die, and the bone begins to crumble.

Digby immediately had to stop running, jumping, hoping and skipping for as long as possible to prevent ay further damage. This was very difficult news to tel a very active 4year boy. Unfortunately this didn’t slow down the condition and just as Digby was about to start school in September he had to be completely none weight baring and wear an A frame cast for 6 weeks.

This seemed to work and everything was looking positive but his most recent X-rays showed the sad news thatthe re growth is pushing the femoral head out of the hip socket restricting movement and range. Digby has been booked in on the 3rd Oct for a Femoral Osteotomy, or on simple terms a procedure to break the bone, plate and reset in the hip socket. This will mean a longer recovery process and weeks in a wheelchair.

Yoga is very important to both of us and the challenge of completing 108 salutations is close to our hearts. 108 is a sacred number in many religions and is thought to bring about change and clarity to a situation. The sequence of movements is also usually done around the change of seasons, to bring in new energy for the upcoming challenges. We want to bring as many people together to join us in this challenge with one goal of surrounding Digby with universal love that the number symbolizes to aid him with a speedy recovery.
