About the Walk

Following the route of one of Britains most scenic canals we challenge you to take part in our 22 mile castle to castle walk.

Starting from Abergavenny Castle we pick up the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal for a scenic walk through idyllic scenery. Following this historical waterway you make your way to Newport Castle, passing through areas of natural beauty and reminders of Gwents industrial past, all the while keeping an eyeout for local wildlife including Kingfishers, Herons & Otters. As well as helping to raise vital funds, the 22 mile (approx) walk offers an opportunity to see some spectacular views of the local landscape.

As usual, we want everyone to be able to support us, and to enjoy this lovely event, so we have shorter routes available too:

15 miles - from Goytre Warf to Newport Castle

10 miles -  from Pontypool Basin to Newport Castle

7.5 miles - from Crosskeys, Cwmbran to Newport Castle

6 miles -  from Cwmbran Stadium to Newport Castle

5 miles -  from Pentre Lane, Bettws to Newport Castle

3 mile walk from Bettws Basin to Newport Castle.

> There is an entry fee of £10 (this covers admin costs),and by endeavouring to raise as much sponsorship as possible you will help maintain the vital service we provide. All entrants will receive a free T-shirt on the day.
