I've rewritten this so many times and I'm not getting anywhere so I'll keep it as short as I can - not bad for a journo!

On September 2 I'm gonna put down my pen and pick up the gloves when I box at the Barnsley Metrdome in an Ultra White Collar Boxing event.

It's all in aid of Cancer Research UK. A fantastic charity. I think we've all been affected by the illness at some point in our lives, either personally or through family and friends. It's a great cause and one I'm happy to be fighting for.

But why boxing? Everyone who knows me knows that it's my favourite sport and it's something that I've wanted to do for a while now. I've pictured doing it so many times - so I've finally grown a pair. Hopefully it's the right decision!

I know it's gonna be hard. I know I'll probably get hurt a bit. But I'm doing it to win.

Training - an eight week camp - starts officially in July. But I feel like I need a head start - so training starts now!

I'll be in touch about tickets. I feel like I'm gonna need a lot of people there supporting me. But it's not all about me - it's for a great cause and any donations you make will go a long way to supporting a fantastic charity.
