Story

The Great North Run... Is Done!!!!

Thanks everyone for your support, encouragement and donations! I nursed a knee injury around the course to finish in 2 hours 6 minutes and 9 seconds and came 14,925th out of 54,000 runners... Which I'm quite pleased with :-)

You can continue to make donations via this page until 20th December 2009 and I'll be asking the RNLI for all money raised from my Great North run and Abersoch 10km run this year to once again be directed to the Abersoch RNLI station which I trust you will feel is your money well placed!

Thanks again everyone!!!!

D.

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for the RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

After saying 'never again!' as I crossed the finish line of last years Great North Run for the RNLI, here I am again preparing for this years half marathon on the 20th September for the same very worthy cause! So why am I putting myself through it again? Well... I figured that if the RNLI crew members volunteer to go out in all weather conditions to save lives at sea, then me volunteering to run 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South shields was a small sacrifice in comparison to help fund them! It's also to say a continued personal thank you to the Abersoch crew for coming to my aid following a sailing accident off Abersoch in September 2007 (you can read more about that particular incident here... http://www.hursthouse.eu).

I'm also running the Abersoch 10km on the 6th June 2009 for the same cause - http://www.abersoch10k.com/the-course-large

The volunteer crews of the RNLI give up their own free time to be trained and on hand when things go amiss at sea. But their services are not just there for sea farers and water sports enthusiasts... Last year the Abersoch crew alone went out on five separate occasions to people walking on the beach who found themselves cut off by rising tides! http://www.rnliabersoch.co.uk/callout_files.htm

The RNLI's equipment and training depends entirely upon charity funding, so please dig deep... You never know when you or someone you care about might need them!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

Dave.

RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.
