Story

Wales-2-Dales Cycle Challenge

As part of our fundraising efforts for 2019, one of the
challenges we have set ourselves is to cycle between our two caravan parks furthest
apart… in a day!!

This has been born mostly out of bravado on the back of Liz
Jones’s 2018 challenge when she successively completed her ‘Cycle to Work’
challenge.
Boys being boys though, thought
WE can do something bigger and better, and came up with this idea…. Starting to
worry now about 2020!!

Our cycle ride will commence from Green Pastures Caravan
Park, Abersoch, on the morning of 28
th
June 2019 when members of
Thornley Leisure Parks staff will set off on a 185mile cycle challenge to arrive
at Gallaber Caravan Park, North Yorkshire, in the light of day!!

Exact details of the route are still to be finalised, but it
will roughly consist of a cycle through the Llyn Peninsula and along the North
Wales coast. Taking in stops at McDonalds for refreshments and at Tides Bistro on
The Beach Caravan Park for a big breakfast. We shall travel clockwise around
the Wirral peninsula before jumping on the Mersey Ferry for a little rest,
relaxation and more food.

Arriving in Liverpool the plan is to cycle north out of the
city up to Southport before
cutting across
under Preston, over Blackburn and skirting the bottom of the Forest of Bowland
taking in Clitheroe and Sawley before crossing the finish line, as such, and
arriving at Gallaber Park hopefully in time to have a few beers in the new bar,
The Stag @ Gallaber

Taking part in this epic, stupid, crazy challenge from
Thornley Leisure Parks are David Thornley, Chris Darbey and Andy Bunce. They
will be supported on the road by fellow cyclists Stuart Smith, Andy Kiddell and
Chris Beadmore. A back up group of friends and staff will also be driving the
route ahead of them to offer support and general banter to encourage them along
the way.

Why do this you might think??

Firstly, we had to come up with something to trump Liz
Jones’s cycle to work challenge from 2018.

Secondly, it’s a great way to promote our new bar and
development at Gallaber Park.

Thirdly, and most importantly, to raise much needed funds
for a local charity, Ty Gobaith (Hope House) which Thornley Leisure Parks have
supported for over 15 years.

Hope House Children's Hospices – Hope House at
Oswestry and Ty Gobaith at Conwy - provide care and support to
life-limited children, young people and their families from Shropshire,
Cheshire, North and Mid Wales.
