Story

We have been inspired by the huge strength Sam has shown over the last year fighting Angiosarcoma. Together as a team of 26, we are in training to take on the notoriously tough Three Peaks challenge starting at 7pm on the 30th April in aid of Sarcoma UK. This challenge includes climbing the highest three peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales: Ben Nevis (1,344m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1,085m) within 24 hours.

Aged 23, Sam was working as a Sales Manager, funding his dream to become a commercial helicopter pilot. Everything changed one morning when he coughed up blood when leaving the house on the way to work. After 4 weeks of medical procedures and surgery, he was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Angiosarcoma, found in his lungs but had already spread to his lymph nodes and his brain. Sam showed such strength throughout 2015, recovering from his brain surgery, followed by 7 months of chemotherapy, and finally 6 weeks of radiotherapy, at the end of the year Sam received great news that the cancer had disappeared. He celebrated by taking a holiday to France where he proposed to his gorgeous girlfriend Beth who has supported him throughout.

However, in February this year, Sam’s scans showed the Cancer had returned to his lungs and his stomach and is growing rapidly, he started a different much more aggressive chemotherapy on the 6th April, this involves 6 cycles, 3 days (72hrs) of constant chemo every three weeks, the weeks in between will be spent recovering.

So while Sam continues the flight against Angiosarcoma over the next 5 painful months, we want to recognise his strength and show our support by taking on this challenge and raising money for Sarcoma UK
